Fast Enough?

So I went for an oil change. 4000 miles overdue, inspection expired and check engine light on. I do take care of the car.

Anyway, Valvoline staff did all the work in less than ten minutes. I was out of there in less than 10 minutes. That was impressive!

But is that fast enough? :)

Of course, that's fast enough! :)

Bush Would Veto Any Bill Halting Dubai Port Deal - New York Times

Bush Would Veto Any Bill Halting Dubai Port Deal - New York Times: "WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 President Bush, trying to put down a rapidly escalating rebellion among leaders of his own party, said Tuesday that he would veto any legislation blocking a deal for a state-owned company in Dubai to take over the management of port terminals in New York, Miami, Baltimore and other major American cities. "

Is the president going Independent? Do we got a turn-coat in the making?

First with the wiretapping and "rebuking" both party leaders for questioning his motives/moves and now with the deal.

Left Red-Faced By the Flying Tomato

Left Red-Faced By the Flying Tomato

The Flying Tomato is what snowboarder Shaun White calls himself. He resembles the mystifyingly unfunny Carrot Top, but without the big arms. (Carrot Top has guns like Smith & Wesson.) Don't get me wrong, the kid is cute, and I'm sure if anybody in the world over the age of 25 had any clue what the halfpipe is, or what these people are trying to prove, he could break through. But if you tell me America's biggest star so far is the Flying Tomato, I'll tell you that's great -- if this is a Burger King commercial. If not, we're in a pickle.

A little harsh on The Flying Tomato!

Oh, the humanity! One man died to rush another wounded to the hospital?

Four die in fresh cartoon protests

Four die in fresh cartoon protests

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan police shot dead four people protesting on Tuesday against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad that have unleashed waves of rage and soul-searching across the Muslim world and Europe.

Tens of thousands of Muslims demonstrated in the Middle East, Asia and Africa over the drawings, first published in Denmark, then Norway and then several other European countries. Some Muslim leaders urged restraint.

In Iran, locked in a nuclear stand-off with the West, a crowd pelted the Danish embassy with petrol bombs and stones for a second day. Protesters hurled a petrol bomb and broke windows at Norway's mission.

The 12 cartoonists whose work touched off the firestorm were reported to be in hiding, frightened, and under police guard. Iran's best-selling newspaper launched a competition to find the best Holocaust cartoon.

"Maid in Japan" cafes treat geeks like lords - Yahoo! News

"Maid in Japan" cafes treat geeks like lords - Yahoo! News

TOKYO (Reuters) - "Welcome home, Master," says the maid as she bows deeply, hands clasped in front of a starched pinafore worn over a short pink dress.

This maid serves not some aristocrat but a string of pop-culture-mad customers at a "Maid Cafe" in Tokyo's Akihabara district, long known as a Mecca for electronics buffs but now also the center of the capital's "nerd culture."

"When they address you as 'Master', the feeling you get is like a high," says Koji Abei, a 20-year-old student having coffee with a friend at the Royal Milk Cafe and Aromacare.

"I've never felt that way before."

Pretty Interesting. :)

Venezuelan VP to McCain: 'Go to Hell'

Venezuelan VP to McCain: 'Go to Hell' - Yahoo! News: "'It looks like they have nothing else to do in the United States,' Rangel said, adding that the Americans have 'so many problems, 40 million poor people, 30 million drug users, and an American senator is paying attention to us. He can go to hell.'"

Well, everyone has a right to be pissed, I guess! :)

Sharon Doctor: Survival Prospects Good - Yahoo! News

Sharon Doctor: Survival Prospects Good - Yahoo! News: "JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's chances of surviving his severe stroke are very high, but his ability to think and reason have been damaged, one of his surgeons said Saturday.

The 77-year-old Israeli leader remained in critical condition, though his vital signs were stable and a brain scan Saturday showed a slight reduction in swelling.
Doctors are to decide Sunday when to begin lifting Sharon's medically induced coma to examine the severity of the brain damage.
'Tomorrow is the day of truth,' Dr. Jose Cohen, one of Sharon's surgeons, told Channel 2 TV. 'Tomorrow we will all know if what we did for him helped him or not.'"

Sharon - A dual headerliner!

Out of a total of 8 news headlines on Yahoo's front page, 2 were about Sharon (Israeli PM) this morning. Wow! That's pretty huge when there are two different articles about the same person and both make the headlines.

Or maybe just a slow day for news? Nah, the reporters can always find somebody's personal life to ravage if all else fails. This really is big!

I hope Sharon makes it! I hope he gets back to the job. I hope he recovers 100% and gets back to the gov't. I hope God will strengthen him.

New Year

Well, the new year is around the corner. No special plans. No plans to go out and party all night. No plans to go get totally drunk. No plans to even hang out at some bar/cafe. Just sitting home and enjoying the downtime.

Gotta go back to work on the 3rd. So really trying to stay home as much as possible and just do nothing. This also is a gift from God. The time, I mean, to just sit around. :)

Might even have to fly out of town in the first week of the new year. The boss is kinda ticked that the pet project of the company isn't taking off any faster. Well, all tried and if it don't move, it don't move, chico! (How's that for a sentence loaded with commas - of which most are unnecessary or incorrectly placed, I'm sure).

Well, off I go to have something to eat and do something else.

A Happy New Year to any and all readers. :)

Long Time

It's been a while since I blogged. Sometimes, things just keep happening and work just keeps piling up and one starts making more acquaintances and even a couple of friends and before long, blogging is on the back burner.

Well, I had some time tonite and decided to redesign some and to fix up the format a little more to my liking and to make an entry, while I'm at it.

Christmas came and went. Another year come and gone. And what have we done. In our own little areas where we promised ourselves that we'd focus more, did we? That's one thing that I generally think about more around the holidays and around birthdays and so on. As times moves on, there has to be positive changes. Life is a gift from God and it should be treated as such with thanksgiving to God and an effort to spend it more according to His will. :)

The 100 what?

There's a Technorati 100 list? Seriously, people need to do something at work instead of surfing blogs.

Why do I quote the whole paragraph? Just 'coz it was easier to highlight the whole paragraph and hit the blog button on the Google Toolbar. :)

Reporting back from BlogHer: "Since I had never seen the Technorati 100 before, I headed there. And predictably, found few women on it. I generally find such lists to be unidimensional and mostly useless, so do not feel unduly concerned that it is a male-dominated list. The important issue is reaching the people you want to connect to. The web is all about being able to reach the Long Tail. So, the more relevant question to me is: Do women bloggers have a harder time reaching people who are interested in the same topics? If the answer is yes, then that is more problematic."

.NET Remoting

.NET Remoting and Remote Events

Problem: I have a remotable object. This object has events. The server serves the object just fine. The client also creates the object just fine. Just when I try to add an event handler to the object, all sorts of exceptions come alive within mscorlib.exe. First, it's about some security level. Which was fixed by manually adding BinaryServerFormatterSinkProvider and setting .TypeFilterLevel to System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.TypeFilterLevel.Full.

Now, I have a really weird issue. The exception says, "Cannot find file . Culture info. blah blah blah blah"

After Googling half the internet and reading just about everybody's projects, I find that Microsoft is _maybe_ achnowledging this to be an issue and recommending a "sit a little to the left of the spinach stain on this couch after 12pm" approach.

This is just insane. Microsoft chose to implement this in the most bizzare way. Cool and new features promised by Microsoft keep varying in size and functionality between different releases. End result? No one wants to use any thing that hasn't been around for at least 10 years.

Forget the rant. This issue is just seemingly impossible to fix. Sure, Microsoft has a recommended work around on their website somewhere but it's just over my head at the moment. I am gonna have to sit and read it carefully this evening and then implement.

A lesson from a hurricane

http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs2005/0828hurricane.asp.

Somebody asked me about this just the other day.

This is an interesting article that talks about how God and natural disasters such as Katrina can be understood (for lack of a better word). God is love and wants all of us to be happy. That's what I believe!

Boring

Well, I went to sleep pretty early last nite. About 9pm or so. So, only naturally, all nite long I kept waking up for stupid reasons such as: it's too hot, I haven't changed sides in 5 minutes and so on. Close to 5am or so, I was exhausted from having stayed up most of the nite because of stupid reasons, so I really fell asleep.

This means that in the morning, I was late for work. Of course. No surprise there. Just one of those givens in life. Taxes, blah blah and being late for work. It's all just so.

Skinny London House on Sale for $933,000 - Yahoo! News

Skinny London House on Sale for $933,000:
LONDON - This thin house requires a bankroll that's fairly fat. A home in London that measures just over 5 feet at its skinniest and 9 feet, 11 inches at its widest is up for sale for $933,868, estate agents said Tuesday.

The narrow home is spread over five levels and used to be a hat shop before being converted into living quarters.

Now that's a cool house. The price is a little steep but since this is in the area where a lot of media professionals buy, it should be easy to afford for most people interested in buying a house there. :)
